I've recently moved the location of my audio system but unfortunately this new location is a little too far away from the power outlet for my power conditioner's cord to reach. My power conditioner, a Panamax M5100-PM, does not have a removable/replaceable power cord, so the only way for me to plug it into the wall socket is with an extension cord. Is there a specific type of extension power cord that I should be looking for, or will a standard lamp extension cord do the trick?
Hi,
I would think twice before putting an extension cable and another pair of plugs on your power conditioner; this can only degrade the sound. Maybe you could send an email to Panamax about the costs of replacing the cord that is on the unit now? Good luck!
You can actually hear cords, and plugs? Hmmm, please explain this logic. How do live events ever get done? I ain't ever heard an extension cord or cord cap or socket, please explain this. I like the sound of 59 centLeviton residentail grade wall devices, if the plug is snug, and the plugs do their job there is no sound in a wall outlet. I am running 4 ckts powering up about 5200W RMS, the wall outlets have no sound, neither do the cords attached to the amps, or pre amps. What is the sound of an AC cord anyway? I also have 6 Furmans, they use cords that are just heavy duty of teh correct ga.
Of course that wire sounds better!
I don't know about audiophile extension cords, but i use an extension cord on my main conditioner. However, it's not a standard lamp cord; it's a heavy-duty one, the kind you use for air conditioners and other heavy appliances. Whatever you get, I'd say be sure it's rated for more than the amount of power your system puts out and the Panamax will handle.
PS audio makes a product called the Juicebar II. This box combined with a quality cable (you supply) will provide the extension you are looking for. It has 4 high quality duplex outlets that are not current limited and are connected to the power cable via bus bars instead of wire. It does not provide any filtering however. This should be a good solution for you.

Not current limited? Hmmm, according to NEMA, and the NEC CODE, there are 15A and 20A RATED wall devices, that is their LIMIT. AND if used for 3 hours or more they are actually 80% of the 15 or 20A, it's called NEC CODE, audio is not imune from what is electrically safe and logical, unless you read ads from hucksters and scammers. I know this is audiophile nonsense where reality and codes don't matter. But how does a company sell you a product that is not current limited? Hmmm, ther better be a fuse or ckt breaker somewhere, or do you like things burning?

If possible, run a couple of heavy grade cables from your power box to a pair of high grade duplexes nearer to your Panamax. It will cost more but when it runs in you will get a better sound.
Shunyata makes the Venom III extension cord (12AWG). It comes in the 2.0M length.
Yup, in teh ad depts of cable scamers! You got to be kidding. Actually there is audiophile anything, when some huckster dreams it up. Demagnetized any records lately, or hung some magic bells in your place to tune teh space?
