The Clearaudio "STATEMENT"

Thanks to Donald Saltzman we finally have a peek at a marvel in engineering. I thank you for being so informative. Super review.
I will be commenting to add to this superlative review in the near future as I also have the statement for about as long as he has had it. Two years later, and with the TT1 for about a year, and it still takes my breath away. But just so that your audioholics don't have a fit, the picture presented on pg.28 does not look in any way like the TT1 you and I have. This was an old picture and the arm Donald describes is the TT1. Look it up. Got to go but will be back with further comments as to what this thing does to me. I still have the heart throb. It will, it seems, never go away.

Yes, TAS did use an older image of the Statement for the Saltzman review.

Here is the correct image. I also had the pleasure to hear the Statement, it's truly a masterpiece.

When the stylus is resting within the grooves you get the feeling that there are no resonant factors to deal with other than the grooves themselves. I was so blown away by this that I wondered what happen if I put all of my equipment on super resonance devices. I opted for the HRX+ M3 and the two went together like toast and jam.
What is it other than the elimination of these resonances that could give us this glorious sound??

GO

An outstanding review! Does anyone remember the old TAS? Although HP has already written about the Statement, it would have been nice to read his comments on the Saltzman review. I look forward to hearing this combination some day.

HP should add to Saltsman's review, but he's probably listening to is record collection for the first time and doesn't want to be bothered.
So explosive (this table is)!!
Its the first time I hear the master "tapes" off a truly awesome analogue player like the Statement.

Curiousity is killing the cat here: What is the rest of your system?

Here's my system
When I saw what the absence of vibration did to my Statement I went all out on the Harmonic Resonance System for my components. The rack consists of
Audio Research Reference 3, PH7 phono all on M3's. The 610 amps sit on M3 on the floor between my speakers. Speakers are Genesis ll's with updated cable which were a tremendous improvement. The Genesis Bass amp also sits on M3 on the floor. Clearaudio double matrix cleaning machine to clean followed by a dstat. Goldfinger that Peter picked for me. Bass towers and midrange panels sit on Harmonix room tuning devices. Room tuning done with Harmonix, ASC tubes traps and Hollograph sound field organizers (4). That's where the 45 years of listening has brought me to. I love it.

Geronimo,

I would love to hear your system. Where abouts in Canada are you? Near the West coast, by any chance? :-)

How about Maple Leaf Land/Southern Ontario?

I thought Don Saltzman's review was terrific, too.

This said, I've got to say that The Statement didn't sound like no mastertape at this year's Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. I listened to four LPs I know by heart and all of them lacked low-level (and high-level) details of pitch, timbre, and dynamic that I know are in the grooves. (And don't, for God's sake, tell me that I've heard these discs "wrong" all these years because I've been using a less-than-Statement-level turntable/tonearm, that I've been mistaking "distortions" engendered by imperfect tracking/tracing/noise floor/what-have-you for "real" detail. The Walker Black Diamond and the AAS Gabriel/DaVinci aren't chopped liver, fellas. Plus, one would think that the state of the art in analog reproduction would do anything but lower resolution) Now, to be fair, the room was playing serious havoc with the speakers (the Focal Grande Utopia EMs), which was clearly a large part of the problem. Indeed, I'm willing to stipulate that it might have been the whole of the problem, but I won't know for sure until I hear The Statement again, properly set up in a less trouble-prone room. Until that day comes, I'm not quite from Missouri but I'll still need some showing.

BTW, Geronimo, that is one helluva fine system you've got!
