Thank you JV - Parasound A21

Audiophile Realist -- Mon, 03/19/2007 - 04:33

I would never have given Parasound a second glimpse had it not been for JV's enthusiastic review earlier this year. The A21 is all I could possibly want in an amp. Soundstage depth, high resolution, power, dynamics are all there in spades. It is so good that spending a dollar more on an amp seems to be completely irrational. I cannot imagine that it gets much better than this. I certainly haven't heard better - different, but not better.

Thanks!

I second that emotion!!

Beyond making music lovers aware of a great but affordable product, JV's Parasound A 21 review benefits TAS readers through its painstaking reference to more expensive products, thereby providing a conceptual framework for reviewing the less costly stuff.

Well done...

I'm just greatful to be perfectly frank. I was prepared to invest $10-$15k on my amp upgrades. This puppy sounds so damn good - I swear it has to be the deal of the century. What more, short of brand colorations or prestige could a person want? This amp drives my 4ohm speakers in my large room without breaking a sweat. Clarity, dynamics, transparency - it's all here!

I have the Parasound P3 pre-amp and have also been very pleased with it. Great company, Parasound.

It's not so much the painstaking reference to more expensive products, but to reference gear regardless of price. The greatest benefit is that when used in such company it is possible to see what the amp's full potential was (instead of limiting it by lesser peers).

Audiophile Realist and Amandela77,
What Preamp and CD playback are you using?  Thanks!

Is the Parasound A21 a good match with magnepan MG1.6? any one try this combination? or how about Odyssey Khartago that was reviewed recently?

The Parasound A21 amplifier is a fantastic value and performer in many ways. I have heard it with the parasound JC-2 preamp and a Rotel CD player set up with the Usher Be-10's at Squire's Electronics in Chambersburg, PA. It was one of the most engaging and fun to listen to and exciting systems that I have ever heard ... solid state or tube. It had MIT speaker cables of about $500 a pair and MIT interconnects (RCA /single ended) for a few hundred dollars and a Richard Gray's Power Company conditioner.
That amp was so well capable of driving those speakers with no problem and the parasound JC-2 preamp with it was just spectacular. I would get that system if we had the money with no hesitation. Enjoy your A21.

Yes, the Parasound A21 amplifier is an exceptional match for Maggie 1.6's. JV said so himself. Maggies need massive power and high current within the massive paower because they are not efficient transducers. Match them with an A21 and you will have gobs of great sounding power that will not let you down.

Oh yeah, keep in mind that Roger West of Soundlab speakers uses Parasound gear to demo his gear at CES.

Another point for the A21. A VERY important point to note is the "burn-in". I felt this amp was no big deal out of the box. But after the initial 10 hours, I am amazed at what this amp can do. And the best part? It matches superbly with my passive preamp. The sound stage is so uge that my current room has become the limiting factor. Bass has definition and some details that I missed earlier now comes through easily. I got a good deal at a local dealer. But tell you what - it is worth the full retail price- maybe more!!
