My 5.1 AV receiver is dying. I have a 5.1 Bose system which I have no intention of replacing. The 5.1 receiver market appears to be evaporating, i.e., not much to choose from. Is it feasible or moronic to use a 6.1 AV receiver with a 5.1 speaker system???? I am presuming that I would just ignore the center back connector. Assuming I get a unit that supports Pro Logic II, I suspect that this should work.....
TIA,
farkled.
Well if you insist on keeping your Bose system, I won;t stop you. Many 6.1 recievers are very 5.1 friendly. No models come to mind, but just read the specs on the 6.1 models you look at and you will see that They power 6 x 50 watts or also 5 x 60w . Or something similar.
On another note, I believe 5.1 systems are still alive and kicking, but I am in the entry level so I could be wrong. I know that NAD, Rotel, & Harmon Kardon all have 5.1 systems with excellent options. If you specified your budget for a reciever you might get a more clear answer.
