Sub/Sat systems & distances

Most experts advice that if you have small speakers for the main left & right, it is better to connect the front left & right speaker outputs from the av reciever to the high level in of the subwoofer, and to connect the speakers to the high level out of the sub.

Definitive Technology suggests that, in addition to the above, the LFE or Pre sub out from the receiver can be connected to the low level in of the sub woofer. Further, for a little better result, they advise that the this low level can be split into two, and connected to the left & right low level in of the sub.

Now, suppose that in the av reciever speaker set up, you were to enter different distances for the front left and right speakers, say, 8 ft for the left speaker, and 12 ft for the right speaker. It is said that the receiver will phase out the signals to the two speakers to compensate for the different distances.

Will the above set up cause loss of bass in the sub woofer, because of the phase difference between the two main channel signals?
