Squeezebox Duet with DAC

JR30 -- Tue, 06/03/2008 - 12:55

I have been considering putting together a music system that includes the Duet and a Benchmark DAC instead of a CD player. Does anyone have experience with these pieces of equipment? This would be my first foray into streaming music. I have been happy with the quality of music recorded in loseless formats, but do not have any experience getting it to my system. The Duet seems to be one of the easier systems to set up and use. Any thoughts?

My full review of the Duet will be in issue 183.

I've also had experience with the Benchmark. The combo should work quite nicely.

But any good DAC or DAC/pre will interface with the Duet's coax digital output. The primary sonic consideration will and should be the quality of your digital files. Lossless will deliver better fidelity than lossy. Also pay close attention to the bit rate of your Internet radio station selections. Anything under 128 kbps will not cut it.
