I am a novice and have been thinking about floor standing speakers for a room that is 14 x 25. within a budget of 750-850. I am considering the psb t45 or psb t55 from a mail order dealer in california. also look at paradigm monitor 7 speakers. amplifer is a rotel RA-985-BX 100 watts per channel. I realize there are new psb's on the market but these seem reasonable. My prime type of music is classical and jazz. any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.
You don't mention in your post whether you plan to put your speakers on the long or short walls, or how far out into the room you can place your speakers. Location in the room will have a fundamental impact on the sonic character and overall fidelity of your system.
Optimal placement will vary with every speaker, but if you set up your room so you are in a mid-field rather than a far-field for your primary listening position, you will get more out of your system because it won't have to put out as much power to play back at satisfying volume levels.

thanks for your reply. i plan to place the speakers along the short wall, 2-3 from the side and about 1 foot from the rear wall.
