Speakers and clipping

Agaluk -- Tue, 01/22/2008 - 20:17

Hello,

I bought B&W 604 S3 speaker (90db) last fall, and wanted to associate them a YBA integrated Sigma (50W).

In a review a read then Musical Fidelity makes a point than any loudspeakers under 95db sensitivity powered by amplification of less than 200W will result in ¨clipping¨.

Whats you think about?

Thanks

First of all, at what volume level do you listen? How big is your room? What distance are you from the speakers?

My room dimensions are 8`* 20`, and my speakers are at about 15`of me.

It still depends on what volume level you use (or want to achieve). My room is about 4X as big as yours, I have 82db efficient speakers, and with 100 wpc, I have been able to enjoy the music. I wouldn't call that ideal (because the system occasionally sounded stressed), but I don't listen at terribly high volume (90db perhaps).

Also, what power is your current amp? Presumably there is something you don't like about it. What is that?
