Sony KDS60A3000 startup noise

Hi, I am new to this forum and apologize if this question has been previously addressed, I couldn't find any relevant threads upon casual inspection.

I just received my Sony 60 SXRD projection TV yesterday. Great TV, thrilled with the image but I am hoping someone here who owns one can answer a question.

Is there supposed to be a loud speaker popping sound when you start it up? It also makes the popping sounds several minutes after its turned off and the fan finally shuts down.
The popping noise happens regardless whether the set's internal speakers are selected or audio is assigned the the A/V receiver.

I have posted a short flash movie here to illustrate:

Unfortunately, I live in a small town with no local dealer or service so any returns are going to involve freight.

Thanks in advance for any input.

You problem is indeed bizarre - the pops sound almost like gunshots! I have never seen anything like this before, and I think there is definitely something wrong. I would urge you to contact Sony service right away. I have their number as (800)222-7669; you might also check online at http://esupport.sony.com/. They may well be able to diagnose the problem right over the phone and advise you what action to take. Perhaps there is an easy fix, and you won't need to ship the set after all.

That noise is definitely a problem. Just return it and get a new one. You shouldn't get any hassle at all.
