So -- what are you going to buy next?

It's Christmas time. Anyone eyeing some new piece of gear?

I must say, I am lusting after the Sennheiser HD 650 headphones that my boss loaned me. Since the arrival of my daughter, I get to spend a lot more time with headphones, so...

Major upgrade for me as I added a Bryston Amp and Parasound Halo pre-amp. The itch is satisfied (for now LOL).

I used AKG headphones countless times while the boys were growing up. I now have a den in addition to the family room so they are pretty much retired.

Enjoy

Bryston 2BLP Parasound Halo p-3
Infinity Kappa 400 M&K MX-70
NAD T-533 Yamaha MCX-1000
Thorens TD-185 Monarchy 33

In the next year I'm hoping to update:

1. Reference speakers for my 2-channel system

2. Reference analog components (might be limited to a new phono cartridge, but updated table and arm would be nice, too).

3. Reference electronics for my multi-channel music/home theater system.

I hope the budget can take it. We shall see... :?

I want to let all AVGuide forum participants know that the editors and writers of The Absolute Sound and The Perfect Vision will be engaging in the forum on a regular basis. Bring on your questions, comments, thoughts about the magazines. We'd love to hear from you.

We will also publicize this forum in the magazines so that we get more participants and generate some interesting and stimulating threads. I look forward to seeing you on the forum.

I'm planning a major overhaul of my room. I'm going to upgrade to a new projector (the Sony VPL-VW100, 1920x1080), install HDMI connections, upgrade from standard-definition TiVo to an HD unit, upgrade the controller (Anthem D1 to D2), and add a universal remote-control system.

I have no idea what to buy next because I dont really know what I have now. My system sounds delicate, powerful, resposive with a great soundstage------but to what am I comparing? I go to dealers but more often than not their sound rooms are small, echoy boxes. My audiophile freinds in my somewhat remote part of Georgia are scarce.
The audiophle press is knowledgeable but translating their adjectives into purchases is a major shot in the dark---and perhaps mucho dollars. They dont have my ears so I could never blame them. They also dont have my sound room.
Auditioning is the 'school' solution, but it still does not compare like with like.
Could you smart guys at TPV and AS provide a consultancy? I would pay money for someone of audiophile standing to review the specification of my system and suggest possible upgrade paths. You dont have to be held to being right but an informed , outside opinion would be of major value to me. Don

To address Don's question, those of us on the magazine's editorial staff have our hands full turning out seven issues of TPV and ten issues of TAS per year (soon to be ten of each). We wish we could consult individually on readers' systems, but we can't. We can, however, improve the way we cover products to make the reviews more useful. Our new Buyer's Guide Plus feature in TPV is an example; it aims to combine the breadth of a traditional buyer's guide with the depth of our experience in a certain product category. Watch for the AVR Buyer's Guide Plus in Issue 68 (later this month).

I have decided to buy something pre-owned. I have heard a Sony TA-3200F and have fallen in loooove with it. especially after listening from an Adcom CD-575 on George Louis RealityCheckCD Ultra disks.
