Simaudio

MindNoise -- Thu, 10/12/2006 - 13:55

Hi All,

First time post.

I finally had a chance to read the Simaudio article and was blown away by the cost of such components :!: What an amazing cover page photo of this gear....

For the rest of us in the real world, are there plans to look at the Evolution series i-7 intergrated.

Thanks.

The photography was good. Certainly better than the sometimes poor stock photos used. HIFI+ has just reviewed the i-7. Reviewed less favourably than their take on either the i-3 or i-5. HIFI+ does seem to be the frankest audio mag. To TAS' credit they did give a jab about the cheesy manual and take issue with the remote.

I like TAS a lot and look forward to seeing it in my mail box but I like HIFI+ more. HIFI+ is a lot tougher. For me it isn't that the described negatives are things I value but rather that I understand the item reviewed better when described by HIFI+. Their writing (or is it listening) is entirely different. That there are more negatives is just incidental.

BTW, I used to own a Simaudio preamp/power amp. Sold them for an ATC amp to suit my ATC speakers.

I have a Simaudio Moon i-7 integrated amplifier for review in an upcoming issue of TAS.

I reviewed the i-7's predecessor, the Moon i-5, and thought it was outstanding. In fact, it's one of those components that stands out over the years as being exceptionally musical.

I'm looking forward to auditioning the i-7.

Hello Mr. Harley.
I have always enjoyed your inciteful audio jounalism.
I am finally able to purchase the system of my dreams and wonder what you thought about my potential purchase of a Moon i-7 integrated amp driving B&W 803 d speakers.
Thank you for your consideration.
cheers!

Simaudio is one of the "stealth" high end manufacturers. Over the years its products have never failed to impress me with a clean, grundge-free low noise floor and an incredibly neutral and transparent window onto the sound. I'm currently listening to Simaudio's new Moon Supernova CD player and if early impressions are any indication, Simaudio's string of fine high end components will remain unbroken.

Best, Neil Gader/TAS

Thanks Robert,

I look forward to your review of the I7. Ever since i got my hand on an old Simaudio W3 I've been a fan. :D

Any chance of reviews with Rogue Audio's new Perseus pre-amp. This unit has all the feature I'm looking for but haven't have a chance to see any reviews on it. I'm looking to match my W3 with this unit from Rogue.

Thanks.

When will TAS have a chance to review some of Simaudio's reference amplifiers such as W-7M and W-8, and compare them to other powerhouses like McIntosh MC402/MC501, Pass Lab's X350.5/X600.5 or Boulder 1050?

Paul Seydor reviewed the P-8 and W-8 in Issue 165.
