Hi all, I'm just in the process of building a storage room for my 5000 records / Laserdiscs / CDs and DVDs and was wondering if anyone knew of any high-end adjustable shelving that might be worth looking into. I'm prepared to do it all custom, but thought I would check what the forum has done or recommends.
thanks

You might check out Music Direct (www.musicdirect.com). They have some nice options, though I don't know that they have one solution that will handle all the formats you describe. Billy Bags is also worth looking at (www.billybags.com), and they do custom sizes as a regular part of their business.

strength and utility seem like the more likely features. gorilla racks would be a good choice, and for the ends and backside, to keep the records from falling out, 2x4s with bolts the right size to fit the slots, would be just right.
my daughter saw this in the net somewhere. we are just looking for the 14" deep gorillas. the ones i use for my equipment rack are 18".
otoh, i saw an ad for billy bags LP racks for $1k that hold 1800 records. that is high end and the billy bags products are sturdy.

I remain a fan of Boltz's steel shelving. It will never warp, and you can build up to five shelves a high, approximately 6 feet tall. Each rack holds 180 LPs or Laserdiscs, meaning that you'd need about 3 sets of 5 racks. boltz.com

Gorilla racks are available at Costco. They are very strong and easy to assemble, but the wrong dimensions for LPs. IKEA has some shelving that's the right dimensions, but the particle board tends to sag with heavy weight over time. I'm in favor of going the custom route using 2" x 12" lumber for the horizontals. It's superbly strong and just the right depth for LPs.

This is what I use for my collection.

8 of those did the trick.
