Seeking opinions Infinity 360 vs Klipsch SF-3

ex_audionut -- Sat, 05/27/2006 - 20:44

When single, had separates and audiophile quality speakers...gone. Now married, with cash evaporating suddenly, bought a Yamaha A/V receiver (model 2500-something) and want to find best lower cost speakers to maximize sound quality and enjoyment, mostly for 2-channel listening. I will have to have house wired for surround, which will be down the road...no way to get wires across laminate floors on slab. With limited sources in my area (Circuit City, Best Buy), the best I have heard are Klipsch SF-3 and Infinity Primus 360. In the store, the Infinitys sounded too bright, the Klipschs muddier in the mids, but decent highs.

I would appreciate feedback from anyone with more experience with these products, and/or recommendations of other "Sensible Sound" (remember the magazine?) products. Thanks.

Let me offer suggestions for two reasonably priced speakers that are easy to drive (hence, AVR friendly), that offer satisfying combinations of smoothness and clarity, and that have received favorable reviews from TAS and/or TPV reviewers.

The speakers I'm thinking of are the Paradigm Reference-series Studio 20 v3s and the PSB Image-series T45s.

You can find reviews of the Paradigms and PSBs archived on AVguide.com; review downloads, as always, are free.

Happy hunting!

I will second Chris Martens' enthusiasm for the Paradigm and PSB models.
