Same sound for half the price?

I have been agonizing between the Marantz 11S1 and 15S1 units partially because it is virtually impossible to find a location to audition them side by side. The price difference here is $1190. A very good friend and audio retailer checked with the Marantz rep he has known for 20 years and even he says and I quote:

" new 15S1 CD player is virtually indistinguishable from their top of the line unit. He said he thinks it's actually quieter and better at resolving quieter passages."

Having said that, it is hard to overlook the mass of great feedback on the 11S1. Not asking for a recommendation but if you do get the chance to listen to the 15S1 to compare a few of us would be forever in your debt.

Also thank you for all you have done educating and helping me and others find quality audio gear!

Mike

Mike:

It's not unusual for a company to introduce a second-generation machine with comparable sound quality at a considerably lower price. I don't have any experience with the 15S1, but perhaps others on the forum can guide you.
