Unfortunately, I'm not in a city where I have the ability audition either of these two speakers. That said, before I begin booking flights to audition speakers, I'd like to whittle down my prospective speaker list to those speakers that I've heard very good feedback on. To this end, I was wondering if anyone has had the opportunity compare the sonic quality of the Revel Salon 2s to the TAD CR-1s? If so, I would very much appreciate your impressions of each speaker. Clearly, the TADs are double the price of the Revel's but I'm not sure that means anything from the standpoint of sonic quality. My listening room is 20x20 if that should influence your opinion.
Also, I am attracted to the turnkey nature of the Meridian products. In particular, I am also considering the DSP8000s. To this end, I would also appreciate hearing folks impression of the DSP8000 vs. the TAD CR-1 and/or the Revel Salon 2s from a sonic standpoint. If I have any misgivings about the DSP8000s they would be (i) the speaker seems due for an update considering that it hasn't been meaningfully updated in several years and (ii) the inability of the speakers to playback 24/192 recordings without downsampling to 24/96.
Thanks to all in advance!
Hi,
I have heard the Salon 2's on a number of occassions. They are excellent, no doubt and a speaker I was interested in. However, to my ear the TAD's CR1's are one of the very few top dynamic mid sized speakers available. You should try and hear a full Beryllium coincident speaker to understand how the phase and timing behave in this type of design, allowing you suble timing cues, phase relationhsips in mic position as a singer moves, etc.
I had a choice of a number of top performers to bring into my audio/video post production suite, and to sell as a dealer, and the TAD was my choice after a multi year search.
If you come to New York, please feel free to stop by for a listen. We also have a large loft here, and the CR1's do a great job filling it.
