Unfortunately, I haven't heard either of these recordings. (At least they should be more upbeat than Boris Godunuv!)
One of my favorite "younger" bass/baritones is Bryn Terfel, also a DGG artist. Check out his 1997 recording of Handel's "Arien". His breath control is amazing!
