Rene Pape -- superb bass

The New Yorker says that he does an excellent Boris Godunov. Has he been recorded?

Yes, he is on several CDs and DVDs on DGG. However, I do not think he has been recorded in recital.

You can check out his discography on his website: renepape.com
His latest CD was as bass soloist in Beethoven's 9th and his latest DVD is Mozart's "Die Zauberflote".

Unfortunately, I haven't heard either of these recordings. (At least they should be more upbeat than Boris Godunuv!)

One of my favorite "younger" bass/baritones is Bryn Terfel, also a DGG artist. Check out his 1997 recording of Handel's "Arien". His breath control is amazing!

Hope this helps,
Jim
