I am looking at the following speaker set-up:
-Fronts: Paradigm Monitor 9
-Center: Paradigm CC-290
-Surrounds: Paradigm ADP-190
-Subwoofer: HSU VTF-1
I was wondering if the Pioneer VSX-917-K Receiver would be enough for these speakers? I am afraid its not going to be. Should I jump up to the Pioneer Elite Series? Or is there any Denon Receivers that would work well with this set-up?
Sorry for the confusion but I am at a loss with the receiver and new to the Surround Sound community. I was set on the Pioneer VSX-917-K for the longest time but am concerned that I won't be getting the best from the Paradigm setup.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Your choice in the Paradigms is a great starting point as I think they are very good speakers for the money, but the VSX-917-K (s)? I don’t think this particular Pioneer will do justice to the Paradigms rather I think you need to step up to the VSX-90TXV. No use buying a Porsche if you’re going to fill it with 87 octane Arco
I agree with looking at the Pioneer VSX-90TXV, any other suggestions other than Pioneer?
If you can afford them I would listen Rotel's line. Better sounding then the Pioneer line. More reliable too.

Thanks I will take a look at the Rotel Line, might be out of my price range after doing a quick search. Certainly worth listening to.
Anyone have anymore suggestions other than Pioneer Elite and Rotel?
Looking in the $500-$1000 price range. Thanks.
In your price range, I would definitely recommend the Denon receivers. They have often received high praise in reviews, and are widely recommended. Also, you might look at the Sony ES receivers.

I’m a personal fan of Onkyo receivers as well, in your price point I would play with the TX-SR805. (Onkyo)
Onkyo and Denon have Audyssey room correction which is valuable.
This new Sherwood has a related room correction system, which you might check out:

In the $500-$1000 range (MSRP that is, not "street price"), I can heartily endorse the Onkyo TX-SR705 A/V receiver, which I reviewed in Playback issue 3. See this link:

However, you may also find it interesting to know that, in Playback 9 (our upcoming May 2008 issue), Steve Guttenberg will be surveying six AVRs that all fall within the $750-$1000 price window. We'll have entries from Denon, Marantz, Onkyo, Pioneer, Sony, and Yamaha. Stay tuned; the collection of reviews should be very interesting.
