Reader Input Wanted: Favorite Portable Headphone Amps?

Chris Martens -- Wed, 04/11/2012 - 12:25

We'd like to hear from Playback and AVguide readers on two related topics:

  1. What are the best portable headphone amps you've heard thus far and what specifically did you like about them?

  2. What are some portable headphone amps you would like to see Playback review in the future (or that you feel Playback readers might want to know about before making purchase decisions)?

We look forward to your responses. We are, as they say, "all ears..."

Like the Headroom Desktop Portable DAC Amp. Long battery life. Very portable. Clear, detailed sound. I would like to see you review this amp.

Hands-down, STAX's electrostatic earphones cum amplifier. Terrific sound, and it's tiny. You get about a day's use on one pair of AA cells. 2500mAh NiMH cells give about the same running time, and quickly pay for themselves. Only problem... the earphone cables are limp and fiddly.

I would have to agree that Headstage Arrow 12HE 3G is the best amp in its price and the size is very attractive. It is an amplifier that can shape your sound depending on your phones. It is indeed an excellent product.

It all depends upon your budget, ask yourself what you like AKG or dre beats headphones, but i like AKG.

As far as I know AKG attention to the music quality, while beats by dre headphones pay attention to appearance, but the price is very expensive, I think AKG is quite good.
