I was at a friend's house and he had a "very nice" (i.e. pretty expensive) front projection setup. I didn't say anything to him, but the "rainbow effect" I noticed was bad. I'm only assuming that what I saw was what is actually referred to as rainbow effect, and I'm assuming he could not see it. If he could, I doubt he could have lived with that purchase.
Question: are there modern TVs that would show this effect to me, or do they only show up on front projection, or is that problem pretty much solved with the latest models? thanks
The "rainbow effect" only affects single-chip DLP displays, both front and rear projection models. Also, different viewers have different levels of sensitivity to it. You may be particularly sensitive to it, while your friend may not be. In that case, he'll remain happy, and you should not buy a single-chip DLP display. Other options include LCD and LCoS front and rear projection setups as well as plasma and LCD flat panels, none of which exhibit the rainbow effect at all.
