Hi,
This is specilally to Mr Paul Seyder but any opinion is most welcome. I plan to upgrade from my MArtin Logans Aeon to Quads 2905. My amp is a Mc MC 402. Both look like Mr. Seyder favourites. He reviewed both and apperently owns Quads himself. My quetion is what will be the best impedance match? Should I use the 8 or the 4 onhs taps fo the amp? The later will have the theoretical advantage of limiting the voltage output of the amp (400w seems to be an overkill for the Quads).
Second question: my room is small. The Martin Logan fits well (with some "boom" at the bass, 61 and 124 Hz, I think!). How will the Quads perform in a small room (5m x 2.8m x 2.8m)?
Looks like nobody as a opinion.
Anyways the question is solved. I tried a pair of Quads 989 at home! They beat the MLogans in everyy aspect except for loudness: Not good for Rollong Stones Live but who cares. They can handle my Mcintosh power and 8 omhs taps are the best.
Freire,
Sorry your post didn't get answered but, as I've noted on another thread, everyone (including Paul) was off at CES last week, and most of us didn't get home until late yesterday (1/11).

Thanks but the problem is solved!!! At first I get in touch with Mr Paul himself. He was very nice and gave me his opinions.
Second: I found a pair of 989s in my local dealer and I'm trying them at home!. They are just fantastic! They cab handle the MC402 very well. It's just perfect! Even in small room.
I have had a pair for over 6 months and nothing other than beautiful music has come from the Quads.
MAYBE YOU SHOULD OF UPGRADED FROM THE ENTRY LEVEL MARTIN LOGANS TO SAY A PAIR OF SUMMITS,I AM PUSHING A PAIR OF MARTIN LOGAN PRODIGY'S WITH MY MCINTOSH MC-402 AND I AM IN HEAVEN,KILLER BASS IN MY 16x10 SITTING AREA 9FT FROM THE SPEAKERS WHICH ARE THREE FEET FROM THE FRONT WALL,THE POWER HANDLING OF THESE MARTIN LOGANS IS TO DIE FOR I AM IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING ANOTHER MC-402 AND RUN THEM IN BRIDGE MONO MODE,BECAUSE IF ONE MC-402 CAN DO WHAT IT IS DOING I GOT TO HAVE TWO,ONE PER PRODIGY,I'LL REPORT BACK,MID AND HIGH'S AWSOME
DECIDED NOT TO PURCHASE THE 2ND MC-402 ON THE ADVICE OF MY SALESMEN/CONSULTANT IN FAVOR OF UPGRADING MY PREAMP SECTION, FROM THE MCINTOSH C-39 WHICH IS ABOUT 10 YEARS OLD, FOR THE CURRENT 2 CHANEL C-2300 TUBE PREAMP,ALTHOUGH I HAD MY EYES ON THE C-46 (WHAT'S AN AUDIOPHILE TO DO?).THE SECOND MC-402 WOULD ONLY GAVE ME 3db MORE OF SPL WHICH EQUALS A DOUBLING OF THE AMPS POWER ,SLIGHTLY MORE IN THE TRANS AN MIDS ($7000.00 MORE?) I CAN'T WAIT.

Hi, any further comment on a good match for Quad 989? I have an opportunity for a 2nd hand McIntosh 402, but i'd rather wait for the perfect match if this one is not optimal...
Cheers
Remy
I have ESL989 since 2001 and found the perfect match with Audiomat Solfege Reference (PP of KT88, very little or no feedback): fabulous ! better than Cary 6550 double PP monoblocks, AudioResearch AR110, Quad II40 (very good) monoblocks, Quad solid states 909 bridged, Sony TA NR1 slolid state monoblocks designed of Sony Esl (very good, the best solid state match I heard) ... : do not miss to audition this combination !
Futterman mono-blocks if you can find them.
