I have recently upgraded my speakers to Spendor S8e's With a Spendor C9e Center and SR5 rears.
I am now looking up upgrade my denon AVR-4306 to separates in hopes to get better performance out of my system.
I have about $8K to spend between both components and am looking for some advice on where to start. I listen to music about 65% of the time and movies 35%.
Here is what I have so far:
1.) Sunfire TGP5 & TGA-7400
2.) Parasound Halo C 2 & A 52
3.) NAD T175 & M25
Is there anything else that I should consider? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I would much rather have detailed, natural, clear, dimensional sound than have all the latest bells and whistles.
Well with 8K to spend you could always jump up a level in the pre/pro and amp market. You can find a McIntosh MX120 (HDMI model) for 3700-4200$ and add a McIntosh MC7106 or MC206 (6ch each) amp for 1800-2400$.
For pure sound quality these are significantly better but with a much higher price. I'm in the same boat as you are in upgrading my equipement. Currently using a lexicon MC-1, NAD 208 thx, Rotel RMB-1066.
I'm also looking at the NAD t175 as a pre/pro upgrade (maybe not sonically, but for the newer tech). Can't afford a new Lexicon mc-12, or the McIntosh MX120 or MX136.
Well, IMHO, you can’t go wrong with either the mentioned Mac equipment or the Parasound I would personally lean towards the C2 / A52 combo as they will offer not only phenomenal sound quality but they also look very modern & cool.
How about the Krell Showcase? I have read lots of great reviews. I am looking for something that is great with low level details and has awesome sound staging.
I will take a closer look at the McIntosh gear. Thank you for the advice!
Can’t be certain if the Krell Showcase combo will fit into your price requirements but if they do then thats great as it is excellent stuff. The key word to remember here is “subjective” one can get advise all day long on these types of forums but in the end it’s your own ear that should be making the final decision, comparing the Krell to the Mac to the Parasound, (for me) is like comparing an Audi A8 to a BMW 7 series to a Mercedes Benz S Class, all fantastic products, it just comes down to what flavor you like. Any one of the above mentioned amp/processor combos may be better suited to the speakers you might be using or the type of acoustics that might be present, etc, etc. I would find the closest dealer and go through some trial runs in your home to find the perfect match. (Sorry if all of this seams quite obvious) But I must say I’m quite excited for you, your going to have a great set up.
Thanks for the great advice. I will definitely work with my dealer to see if I can get an in home demo. I am also going to look at the naim av2 I think. Should be a long and exciting process.
I OWN A LEXICON MC-1. LAST TIME I USED IT I TURNED IT OFF WITH THE REMOTE. THE NEXT DAY, IT WOULDN'T TURN ON. cHANGED BATTERIES, TRIED IT MANUALLY BUT NOTHING SO FAR. ANY IDEA WHAT'S EATING HIM? TXS. UNBACAN
