My admittedly passe Samsung BD P1200 player continues to add to quite a list of disks for which it cannot successfully display the initial control menu. Even the latest firmware makes no difference. The player outputs the background video loop(no error is displayed) but no menu items appear nor are they "ghosted" (not visible but addressable). I have observed this with about 7 disks, all of them recent releases, e.g., Sunshine and Pirates of the Carribean - End of the World. I have taken several of these discs to a local store and tried them in a BR display model. All of the discs work fine. Smugly on the other side of their miserable 90 repair/replace warranty - Samsung suggests I send it in for repair.
Is this a common problem? Have others experienced this issue and please provide suggestions (yes, including "buy a decent player" - so which one). Thanks in advance.
I assume you are talking about blu-ray discs? I ask because I have had a similar problem with my PS3, but with standard discs.
Yes, newly released (and previously unplayed) BluRay discs.

I have the same experience...I have one of the earlier ones a Pioneer LX-70 and for the life I can't get one blu ray disc Shine the Light/Rolling Stones to play...it takes foever to boot up then goes dead as soon as the menu appears, sometimes the menu just doesnt. Tried powering down and re-booting, wating for 30 min etc etc,...so frustrating indeed. But that was the only one so far...
