I'm a little confused about the video benefit of upgrading my cable connection btw my plasma (Hitachi HSD69 - 1080x1024) and the cable box...I have right now a Belkin Pure AV component cable (same brand for audio) would it make a BIG difference of video quality if I purchase a expensive HDMI cable like the Wireworld or Better cable?
Is there always a difference of video result btw using a component cable and HDMI cables?
Thanks!
Here are my thoughts... I'd recommend the HDMI overall, as you would get the pure digital signal, as any extraneous digital to analog conversion can degrade the quality. Cable HD outputs to 720p/1080i, so a comparison between (analog) component and HDMI may only show minor differences, but HDMI is my preference.
However, you also are concerned about price, and this is where some research can help you greatly. HDMI is a pure digital signal, so cable quality tends to be irrelevant as you either get the signal or you don't. If you have an average length (6-12 ft) a cheap HDMI will do you well. (I actually have a 25ft DVI/HDMI cheap cable that works great.) I recommend checking online with places like allelectronics.com or monoprice.com as they have very inexpensive cables, as my was around $35. That should do the trick.
Also, check your connections on your cable box as mine outputs to DVI and not HDMI. HDMI is basically a DVI cable with audio capabilities, so it's easy to get at DVI to HDMI cable and additional audio cables to setup your system.
Hope this helps!
