Can anyone comment on the relative merits of using an Audio Research PH-7 phono stage vs. using an Audio Research SP6 pre amp to boost the output signal from a turntable prior to full amplification?

With what cartridge, at what output?
B&O MMC20EN, output 2.12mV, sensitivity >0.6mV
