No specs available on NAD M5 CD SACD Player?

default -- Sun, 08/09/2009 - 22:50

Does anyone know why NAD gives no specs on the M5 CD SACD Player? They do have specs (frequency response, THD) listed for the M55 universal player but on their flagship SACD/CD noticeably absent. It doesn’t exactly engender confidence in their product.
Thanks,
gtrman

 gtrman,

You're right. The published specifications NAD offers for the M5 are pretty minimal (dimensions, weight, etc.).

One educated guess, and it is only that, might be that NAD wants us to understand that M5 is a subset of the M55 (that is, essentially the same player but without DVD-Audio/Video playback capabilities). If that is the case, though, then I think NAD should say so more clearly.

'Good catch on your part.

Chris,
Thanks for checking. I did contact a dealer and he emailed me a pdf file which does contain the specs which look great to me. I think this shows it isn't a subset of the M55 all disc player. Why NAD would want to keep it under wraps is beyond me. I will post it below since my question did suggest perhaps a negative connotation on the M5 SACD/CD player. I am also puzzled why the M5 has not received more attention and reviews. Thanks again for looking into this.

 gtrman,

I suspect the M55 drew the lion's share of the limelight since, at the time of its release, it was regarded as more of a "do-all" player. From a sonic perspective, the M55 remains one of my favorite universal players (to beat it, I feel, you've got to be ready to invest a boatload more money).

Has anyone compared redbook audio between the M5 and M55? Is the M5 better for audio?
