Due to a recent kitchen overhaul, I get to purchase new speakers. My old Energy 22.3’s are simply too bright to handle the new acoustic environment. I went from a fully carpeted room that opened into a largish entryway and into a kitchen, both with tiled floors, to a fully tiled environment. We have a 5'x8' wool throw rug directly in front of the speakers/TV/home theater.
I am looking to spend about $2k. I’m looking for a speaker that is a bit fat in the bass, warm midrange, highs that aren’t analytical or crisp and a laid back presentation. Thus far the only speaker I have identified that seems to come close to all these criteria is the Vandersteen 2CE Signature.
I have a Rotel CD player, Conrad Johnson PV10L tube pre-amp and old PS Audio monoblocks (about 250 w/channel).
In my desired price range, what would you recommend?
Your target cost dollar amount is truly rewarding, thus, I would whole heartily recommend the B&W model 683 with its legendary “warm” and “accurate” midrange, elegant tweeter and very dynamic bass response; it should meet your requirements quite well.
