Hi, I hope someone can help me, recently I acquired a goldmund st4 turnable in a bad condition but I clean and set it up properly that's what I thought but when I put a record to spin and lower the tonearm by pressing the cueing it started to play than suddenly the vertical carriage kept moving and pushing the tonearm to the end of the record, hence the record doesnt play properly.
there must be something to adjust the carriage, can somebody help.
thanks
Hi there,
Ran into the exact same problem. My ST4 started behaving like this recently after not using it for a while.
Looks like the motor is driving the caridge too fast and it starts pushing the tonearm until it cues up (As if it reached the end of the record).
Sometime ot happens instantly, sometime after a few secs/minuts.
Did you learn anything about how to fix?

Good luck.
Replace the tonearm belt with an official Goldmund belt. Stay away from companies in Las Vegas that advertise Goldmund belts but provide "homemade" ones. Brooks Berdan in Monrovia CA usually stocks the belt. I used to have a ST4 for 20+ years. No one could really ever get it set up properly. I took it to Brooks and he got it running the best it ever had!
