I'm buying a Squeezebox Duet and am thinking about having it modified by Bolder Cable Co. in Colorado. Is this likely to give me a significant boost in performance over just running it stock through a decent quality DAC (Benchmark for example)?
I would suggest spending some time with a stock unit first. Then put it through a DAC and listen for some more time. You may find the Benchmark DAC to be just right for you or you may wan to see what a better power supply (or other mods) for the Duet can do. A lot depends on the resolution level of the rest of your system AND your own expectations.
