In the litterature for their new 808.2, Meridian claims that their new filter solves all the problems of previous designs, specially with respect to pre-ringing.
Has anyone have experience with this unit, specially vs other well regarded designs ?
I just got one of these yesterday and it is hooked up to the Meridian 7200 and it sounds really good. I will try to put it with some other products and let you know what happens. I will bring it in and stick it on my V.3 next week and report back.
Be well
I heard the player at CES last year and was struck by how much CD sounded like high-resolution sources. In a conversation with Bob Stuart, he told me about the filter's development; they tried a very wide range of filtering schemes before finalizing on the "apodising" filter (which also turned out to be the most expensive because it required the most DSP horsepower). According to Stuart, many of the sonic artifacts we associate with CD are actually introduced by conventional digital filters. Spectral has a similar view; they recently introduced their "Long Filter" in the SDR-4000. The Long Filter is a custom algorithm running on a DSP platform.
We're trying to get a review sample of the Meridian 808.2.
I will try to report on it after the weekend. I have one, its burned in and I was hoping to do it last weekend but I will do it this weekend for sure.
SO far I am impressed with it!
Zeb, I have done some listening to the MERidian and my advise is to take a listen. I Am not a reviewer but the player is extremely good and worth listening to. I Have not heard all the all in one box players out there but it is certainly better than the ones I have heard.
I am sorry but I do not have those pieces I sold the set I had before we moved into the new place. I did use the Meridian for my CLX event and it sounded spectacular to say the least. All i can say is it is definetly worth listening too. I think that you should try to hear this , really try it, a word to the wise :)
I've been listening to the Meridian 808.3 (as a DAC connected via Ethernet to a Sooloos) daily for the past three months and can say that it makes it hard to go back to other DACs for the majority of my CD catalog. It has a smoothness and ease that's addictive.

Our reviewer Sue Kraft just received her sample of the Meridian 808.2.

Any brief comparisons vs the EMM labs pair (transport/DAC)?
