Meridian 808 Vs. Esoteric P03/D03

Did anyone (other than Robert Harley) got to critically listen to both these players?
How would you compare them? Any clearly superior machine?
Thanks!
PS RH, let us know of your comparative impression as well please.

I too am very very keen to know;
Has anyone on this forum done an A/B between the Meridian 808 & any other Teac Esoteric Player ?
X3 or X1 or better.
Does the 808 play DVD - A ?

Apart the TAS # 164 review, has it benn reviewed by anyone else ?
Meridian 808 i.e.

Inputs & Suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Bhagwan

I have auditioned the 808. It plays DVD Audio in 2 channel only, superbly. It projected the largest (highest, deepest) soundstage I've heard from my system with CD and DVD-A and was sonically outstanding - it played music, not hi-fi.

Against it's superb performance, I felt the plastic materials were unacceptable, including the ROM drive. Esoteric and dCS offer much higher physical quality. I've listened only briefly to an Esoteric X-01D2 but the conditions were unsatisfactory, so I don't feel able to comment in the context of your question.

I would observe that the Meridian plays CD and DVD-Audio whilst the X3 and X1 are CD and SACD. If you're after the high resolution formats, SACD is much stronger than DVD-Audio now.
