McIntosh Solid State Amp Sound Change

My McIntosh Amp changes the sound signal sent from the Mc Preamp and or Mc CD player. It remixes the sound so that it is different from the sound I hear through the headphone connections. Does anyone know what could be happening here? :cry:

Could you explain a little more about the two listening situations---with the amplifier vs. with the headphones?

The amp was shipped to me in the bridged mono position, hence the strange sound reproduction through the speakers and good sound reproduction through the preamp headphone plug. :oops:
