I've been reading reviews on the Magnepan 1.7 and the anthony gallo strada speakers. I've been on the internet all day trying to find a place where I can listen to both speakers so I can compare them. Do you know of anywhere I can listen before I buy.
Has anybody listened to either the magnepan 1.7 or the anthony gallo strada, if so what are your opinion about them.
We're in northwest Arkansas. Any comments are appreciated.
thanks.
Not the same models, but I had the Magnepans 3.5 and the older Gallo reference 3.1 (still being used in my AV room). They were both similarly priced speakers though the Maggies was a good 10 years older than the Gallo. I preferred the Maggies in my main system. I've not heard the Stradas, but the 1.7 is a wonderful speaker.

I auditioned both speakers (though not in the same room for a direct A to B) and found the Maggie to be superior in every regard. Used to own the Reference 3.1, but have since replaced them with the 1.7s. The 1.7s throw a far bigger, deeper and more coherent top to bottom soundstage than any speaker I have heard under $10K. They are superior to the Strada by a wide margain. In fact the new Galo Reference 3.5 (which I also listened to) are hard pressed to keep up with the 1.7s.

I took a friend to Atlanta (2 hours away) to listen to the 1.7s. Took my Marsh 400 amp. Listened to them for an hour with the Marsh and didn't like them at all. Far too much edgy treble and no more detail than my Dunlavy SC IVs. After all the hoorah, I was disappointed. Bad amp match, I guess, aothough I've listened to this amp with several very good speakers with outstanding results (all cone type). Didnt have time to change to the dealer's amp.
