Currently, I have the Wyred 4 Sound SX-1000 monos. Last night, I ordered a set of heavily modified Khartago monos from Klaus at Odyssey Audio. I'm also going to get a Parasound A-21. After letting all the amps break-in, I'm going to do my own $2500 amp shoot out. Am I missing any other contenders? Maybe the Hk 990 integrated that Stereophile just reviewed??? Anyone in the Hampton Roads area who wants to join in, I should be ready for some serious listening in early March.
Hi Twochannelman:
The "Golden Ear" speaker is not associated with the "DT" brand. The 1st model they produced, a tower, got some impressive reviews. They've since come out with a few other models, I'm sure if you check out their web page you'll see all they have to offer. If I was going for a "conventional" speaker I'd definately check out their tower, of which they now have a slightly smaller version, because some of the praise they received was for their "planar-esk" qualities. The price is around $2500 for the larger tower and less for the smaller.
Regarding the McIntosh, I believe the "old" 275's were a bit on the "dull" side, so it may not have been the Mythos's that were the culprit. The "new" 275's are much better in that regard.
A few items I'd like to pick up in the not to distant future are:
A "Mint Alignment Protractor" which is made specifically for the Rega arms.
A machined aluminun "sub-platter" for my P5.
Possibly the Denon DL-S1 low output mc ( .14v ) with a tracking force of 1.4 g's.
A full set of "Pvsane Shaugaun" tubes for my Audio Space, 4-KT-88', 4-12 AU7's, and 2- of some other # I can't remember.
Then possibly try out a sub.
That should more or less keep me in "audio nirvana" for a while.

Missing from the discussion (or I just missed them) are the Jalida products and the Anthem Integrated. And was there a "winner"? A top tier?
