Magico V3 vs. Wilson Maxx2

Robert Harley---since you have owned/reviewed both speakers, which do you prefer and why?
I heard the Magicos this past weekend and was really impressed (i went in cyncial, but came out a believer).   I went and heard the Wilson Sasha, which i didn't think came close to the magic of the V3s--just not as musical, despite the Sasha doing all the hi fi things correclty (imaging, soundstage, etc.)  However, at the Wilson dealer i also heard Maxx3 and was very, very impressed--which is odd as Sasha uses same mid and tweeter now.  He is offering a pair of Maxx2s at not much cost more than the Magicos, so i am now in a quandary.
That said, i live in a condo on the second floor and getting the Maxx2 would not be for the faint of heart since the crates are so large.
Cheers,
Keith

And you assume the Maxx 2 will sound as good as the Maxx 3? I not following you?

You should give some thoughts to what was driving these 2 different speakers. I have heard the Maxx 3 in Munich with the Soulution gear and the V3 in Paris with the same front end. Although impressive at Munich, the Maxx 3 lost much appeal after hearing the V3 on a similar setup. The V3 were SO much more sophisticated/transparent in their presentation that the very familiar pieces I played sounded as if I heard them for the first time. Funny how you do not know what you are missing until you hear it.

The v3 is a far better loudspeaker. I own the V3's and have had the Maxx 2 and 3's in my highly treated custom room and the magicos measured and sounded wayyyyy better( V3's measure +/- 1.5 db's from 23hz to 26khz in my room while the maxx's measured near its anachoic response which is bad ). The V3 with my MBL 9008a amps are still the best sound i have ever heard , im still waiting to hear the M5's but im waiting for my dealer to get them in.

Keith, on the basis of your space constraints alone, i'd go with the v3.   The last comment really struck me since the Maxx 3, pricewise, is in another league compared to the V3 and yet the writer claims that the v3 blew the maxx 3 away. This, coupled with sterling reviews the world over would make me choose the magico over a discounted maxx 2.  Lastly, I agree with you that some Wilsons, the WP series in particular since i owned a WP 8, do all the audiophile things right but seem to lack musicality.

thanks guys- scheduled a second V3 demo now that i have heard the Maxx3s.  yes, i know the Maxx2s aren't as good, but soundstage of that larger speaker is veyr impressive.

Make sure you have decent amplification for these . I am driving my Mini 2 with ARC 610Ts. A couple of days ago, we heard the M5 being driven by ARC CD-8/Ref 5/610 T to staggering effect, followed by the V3s replacing the M5s (not fair, but that's the way it went). The V3 acquitted itself quite honorably, I should say. Great speakers - the lot of them.

i would like to drive either with my BAT integrated for now....i know its not a huge amp, but drives everything i've thrown it with aplomb.  even the BAT guys said they have driven Thiel 6s with it before and it has crapped out.

 "it has NOT crapped out"
sorry!
