I was wondering if other listeners were as surprised as I on how much better these speakers are then as represented at CES this year. I have just moved into a new space and we have a new high end sound room and in only a matter of a few hours I have sound coming from these mild mannered looking boxes that is nothing like what I heard in Vegas. These speakers are in a whole different league and something truely "magical"
I am posting this since I decided to carry them from my meetings with the principals and the recommendations from some folks I respect in the industry and not on what I heard. I decided to spend my money and take my chances on what I thought might be an excellent and sellable product only to get something that has an amazing wall to wall sound stage, incredible focus and an uncanny sense of you are there.
I am pretty familiar with them as well, they are always a thrill to hear.
Saw that they were in the new Stereophile as class a, limited lf, despite clearly more bass extension than 3 or 4 other in the non-limited category.
I own the Magic V3 for about 6 months now. I owned the Wilson Sophia 1's and was looking for more bass extension. During my search which took almost 2 years, I never listened to a speaker which could convince enough to request for an extended test at home.
Then I heard the Magico's, both the Mini II and the V3. Both extremely wonderfull speakers, with my preference for the V3 because of the deeper bass. I requested for a trial at home within 15 minutes.
So after 6 months listening experience , here are for me the strong points of the Magico V3's.
1) they bring the musicans into your listening room. Playing a record of a life performance makes you (re-)live the concert as if you are there.
2) very wide sounstage, both large and deep
3) These are the first speakers I am listening to with my eyes OPEN, not only do I listen to the performance, these speakers make me watch the performance.
4) excellent deep, well controlled and defined bass. (I could use once in a while a little bit more slam, but I never miss it)
5) last but not least, these are the most homogenous performers I know.
Very often it is said that a 3-way system can never be sounding as homogeneous as a 2-way. Well , I can tell you that on this aspect, The V3 easily keeps up with the Mini II's.
The only 'weak' point of these speakers is the reproduction of electronic equipment, such as synthesizers, sequencers etc.. The V3's reveal the real truth on these 'instruments'; meaning that they are not.
I know the Magico V3's are expensive (extremely so over here in Europe), but if you have the chance, go and visit a Magico dealer and give them a listen. I know I was sold immediately and even more so today.
I'll second (or is it "third") the comments made here about the V3. It is truly an exceptional loudspeaker.
Choosing for myself, I would go with the V3 for its greater dynamics and bass extension over the Mini II, even if they cost the same (the V3 is $4600 less).
I can appreciate all the love for the V3. Tempting, but to my ears, the Mini 2 is more 'together', seamless and coherent.
Good job too, as otherwise, we would all be buying the same speaker :P
I have read the reviews for both speakers and both seemed fanatastic. Given the choice between the two which one would you choose for your own.
Revel Ultima Salon 2 vs. Magico V3-
My question is regarding the difference between these two speakers. What are the significant differences between these two spekers and which one would you purchase?
You should listen to both and decide for yourself as no one can tell you what you like. RH did a review of both and its in TAS. I am a dealer and have had both in my showrooms and I certainly have my preference but that does not mean you will agree with me or anyone else.
If you want some advise I have first some questions for you
1) Room dimensions
2) equipment to be used with it
3) musical preferences
4) speakers owned before
5) do you attend live music and if so what do you go to hear( i.e rock, classical etc)
Also remember when buying to do your homework on the companies behind the products. a word to the wise always.
THis is a public forum so there is only so much i can say,
Good listening!
Here's another salient question: Magico V3 or Magico Mini II.
I know which one I'd pick.
Jon, have you had both of them in your home?
I have not had the MIni's here ....yet :)

Me too. And it is not the Mini.
I wrote a fairly detailed comparison between the V3 and the Ultima2 on page 80 of TAS Issue 179.
As for the question of the Mini II or the V3, I'd pick the V3. I should say, however, that I haven't heard the Mini II under as good conditions as I've heard the V3. I should also add that Jonathan hasn't heard the V3 at its best.
