Finally found a little information on the upcoming Magico M5 (used to be called M3.5) and the new 'entry' V2 on a Japananese website:

And then there is the delayed, but looks like 'revolutionary' M5, with the first ever Magico-designed tweeter... I believe that makes the M5 the first all-Magico-drivers Magico.

We have plans to review both the M5 and the V2.
Any idea of pricing for the M5 Robert?
$78K.
My understanding is that the M5 is $90,000, and the V2 will be $20,000.
Great! Can't wait to read the reviews... even though I have a feeling they are gonna be quite something for sure. Interesting how the V2 and M5 both (I believe) use passive woofers...
78k for the M5 is the 'old' price. Apparently Mr. Wolf has decided they are really worth 89k... a recession-denying/defying number for sure! It's a little puzzling imo, given how much aluminium price has declined.

hahaha!.. ran into local magico dealer last week and probably going for an audition next week as they have one set up already here in singapore. M3.5 or M5 at US$90K!?... wah.. me now broke now having just put an ///M3 on the road (...pun intended :) ) Mini 2 still picking up the hours..
WS... is your music room up already? M5 on shortlist?
cheers
Nice! M3 =)
M3 prices has come down a lot since inception in HK. They simply couldn't sell as many of them at the original price when they launched... and 3 months later, they reduced the price... supposedly sales were starting to pick up, then the financial crisis hit...
No, my room is NOT up! arghh! I can't wait to hear the Mini II in the room. M5... yes, very much on the short list... I don't know when they will be in HK, but I may not want to go listen to them until I know I am ready to buy them! I have a feeling once I hear them, I will end up owning them one way or another.

Show how much you understand manufacturing. Commodity pricing of Aluminum is a small factor of the actual price of Aluminum plates. Particularly high grad aluminum like 6061 T6. I am a buyer for an Aerospace company and we have seen very little movement on plate pricing. In fact during Nov, prices when up due to metal purity issues across vast suppliers from the Far East. Especially China. Beside, where are these prices are coming from? I see no official announcement from Magico about the M5.

Roy,
You are absolutely right, I have no idea about these things. I am not in the industry, and do not pretend to know anything about the cost of these fine speakers.
All I know is in this economy, everyone is looking for a bargain. Perhaps, at 89k, the M5 is one of the greatest bargains out there! Who knows! It was just one of the things I remember about the Mini... that aluminum makes up a good part of the cost of the Mini.
We'll get definitive pricing at CES. Not only has the cost of aluminum declined, but the dollar/euro ratio has improved considerably. Many of the parts in Magico loudspeakers come from Europe.
We'll also have a chance to hear the V2 and the M5 at CES. Watch for a report on AVguide.com by January 13.
It's official: The Magico V2 will be $18k. The system uses two 7" Nano-Tec woofers mated to a 1" ring-radiator tweeter. Sensitivity is 89dB and impedance is 4 ohms. The bass extends to 32Hz. The system weighs 120 pounds and measures 42" x 12" x 10".
We will be reviewing the M5s and the V2s this coming year. (The plan at the moment is for me to review the M5s, which I'm greatly looking forward to.) An old friend of mine--who used to post to this site under the droll screen name Rupert Pupkin--has heard the M5s and tells me that they sound just the way I hoped they would sound: like giant, full-range Mini IIs. I will be auditioning them at length at CES and will post my initial reactions on this thread.
I just had the good fortune of hearing a pair of Magico V2s driven by Simaudio gear: wonderful!! Probably the best midrange I've ever heard (and I've demo'd many speakers at this point). Totally natural, almost palpable reality, esp. to vocals. (Margo Timmins and Norah Jones were IN THE ROOM!) Plus crisp cymbals (with overtones) and good texture to guitars and string basses. Excellent piano, which is difficult to get right. The only (minor) compromise is that they are missing the last ounce of slam to electric basses and kick drums -- nonetheless they still sound nice. Overall very coherant. You can turn up the volume without stridency. (The V3 excels as well, if you are looking to fill up a larger room and have a larger budget.) If you are exploring speakers in the $15-25k price range, you owe it to yourself to audition these. In fact, do it last. Bravo, Mr. Wolf!
My review of the M5 will appear in Issue 196.
I'm scheduled to review the V2 later this year. It sounded quite promising at CES.
Hi Jonathan.
I very much look forward to reading your review of the M5. I have been very, very fortunate to have had the opportunity to audition the M5's in my listening room for the past few weeks as my local dealer graciously agreed to do this for me. I have been using the ARC Ref 3 and ARC Ref 210 combo with the M5's. The ARC electronics seem to have been made for the M5's. The sound is very special indeed. I have a fairly large dedicated listening room - 20 feet wide, 33 feet long with 12 foot ceilings and the sound is glorious as the Ref 210's seem able to bring the speakers alive in that size space. I know that you are fortunate to be using the Ref 610t's and I was wondering if you could comment on how the M5's sound when being driven by the 610t's in comparison with the Soulution electronics. Thanks very much.
Arnie,
Man, you must have a great local audio dealer. I wish more folks could have the opportunity to do what you've been permitted to do. After all, $89k is a substantial purchase, and there really is no substitute for hearing a loudspeaker in you own listening room with your own gear and your own music.
As to your question, yest, I will comment on the Ref 610T vis-a-vis the Soulution 700 and also on bi-amping versus bi-wiring or single-wiring.
Jon
dear Jon,
That's what i was hoping to hear, "like giant mini 2's"...
Your first review and now your Stereophile revieswjust show how much your initial impressions grew along the same line!
besides the 'slings and arrows" from those reacting to just the price [the "birthers and death panelers' of audio! ] you have compacted what to look for, what must be different, and what must be acheived! Bravo! As a Mini2 owner i'm on my way to the mini 5 to replace the "over image everything" Kharma 1d-de's!!!
Thanks Jon,
Yes, I am really very fortunate to have a local dealer who was willing to set them up in my room - no small feat - as they had to be carried up 1 flight of stairs. The moving company the dealer used did basically what your pictures showed - lifting them straight up the stairs with straps around the bottom of the speaker and crisscrossed over one of the movers shoulders.
I have been listening to the speakers single wired in conjunction with the Magico supplied jumpers and last night I finally got a second pair of matching speaker cables so I have just started listening to them using biwiring. So your comments on this in addition to bi-amping will be great to read.
Arnie S
You are one lucky man!
I have been living with the V3 for about 14 days, they have played about 70 hours by now, and they already sound much better than my previous speakers (Kharma Exquisite Mini).
Can only dream about the sound of your system:-)
Thanks JJ,
My local dealer offered to set them up in my room for me to audition so that I could make a better decision. I didn't even ask - I was perfectly happy to hear them at his place but he offered - and as you said, I am very lucky to get this opportunity.
I am using the V3s with 610t s...they sound better every day...i have just done a major construction in my listening room...upgraded the whole electric system...each wall socket now has a dedicated line and earthing straigh from the ground provided from 5x 1.5meter copper sticks burried in the ground...its beena 3 month project now but now each component in my av and audio system has their own dedicated power line...including my active martin logan on wall home theater speakers...
the issue now is the burn in of the power lines...will require some time but so far the results are stunning to the ears in the sense of quietness and dynamics...however i will need an additional2 months for them to really burn in to comment in detail...i have listened to the M5 in munich show and it was just unbelievable...however the price tag of 89k forces me to be happy with the junior version of the m5...long live v3...
