What are your latest favorite music and movie?
I must say the latest from rock band King's X is blowing my mind. Consistently excellent band, and their new album, Ogre Tones, doesn't disaapoint. kingsxonline.com
For movies, my wife and I've been mostly revisiting classics, since not many new releases seem very interesting to us (plus, there is very little overlap between what I want to see and what my wife wants to see!).
Of the recent moview, there was this Japanese indie movie called "Nobody Knows" which was pretty good movie. It is subtle and slow and hard to watch at times, as it documents the life of these four children abandoned by their parents in the middle of modern Tokyo.
And we just watched Amadeus for the second time. An amazing movie.
So -- what's been in your players?

What type of music is King x? Until the last year I was away from music for over ten years. I love the old blues based rock n'roll such as SRV, 38 special, ZZ, etc...
So far I've found a couple of good new artists (at least new to me) named Jonny Lang and the Kenny wayne Shepherd band. I,ve been playing the hell out of both lately.
Bryston 2BLP Parasound Halo p-3
Infinity Kappa 400 M&K MX-70
NAD T-533 Yamaha MCX-1000

My highest recommedation to the soundtrack to "Good NIght & Good Luck" The classic jazz singing of Diane Reeves is scintillating-It was all recorded live on film as well-a rarity today. The sonics aren't bad just kind of inconsistent from song to song. But definitly check out the last track, "One For My Baby". And don't miss the movie!

I still have Beck's Guero in heavy rotation. I am anxious for the release of Donald Fegan's new album.
As for movies, nothing has really captured my attention lately. Anymore I skip going to theaters and wait for DVD's to be released. I didn't see War of the Worlds until this last Thanksgiving and, to put it bluntly, it was acceptable mindless entertainment. The only "movie" I anticipate watching in the coming days will be Cream's live concert DVD. I've only seen about 1/2 hour of this so far, and it looks like it will be an enjoyable watch and listen.
Been checking out She Wants Revenge's self-titled album - very cool, catchy dance music. Always digging into Miles Davis' bag of goodies. Checking out Grant Green's Solid and Swayzak - Loops From The Bergerie.
My latest favorite album is Mission of Burma's The Obliterati. It's like getting repeatedly kicked in the face by Jerry Lawler. Only much, much tougher.
As for film? I'll go with An Inconvenient Truth. I think this should be required viewing for high school's across the country. Heck, for everyone, actually.
I'll also throw in a couple of least favorites (why not?).
The new David Gilmore is a total bore. Check out the Secret Machine's Ten Silver Drops instead.
Film-wise, I used to work at a video store and I still enjoy torturing myself with bad Hollywood cinema (The Day After Tomorrow, anyone?) largely for comic value. That said, Ultraviolet might be the worst movie I've ever seen. Its plot is so cobbled together from other, more-popular films that I've take the liberty of renaming it: Kill Flux II: Evolution. Bonus points to anyone who can name the three films that comprise this new title.
Mission of Burma (reviewed in current TAS, Issue 163) is indeed a stunner. Gotta love a band who has a member that wears firing-range ear protection because of the volume.
I also agree regarding "An Incovenient Truth." That really gets me excited about the future...right.
About The Secret Machines, I don't know how a band like that can get so colossally ignored. Shows you just how narrow-minded audiences can be. And what a great comparison. Something like that sleep-inducing Gilmour record--the fact it was recorded on his houseboat kind of says it all--gets the press because he's Gilmour while SM out-psychedelicized, wrote, played and melodicized his record from top to bottom. What a drummer. Dave Grohl, step aside.

I'm not even sure the Secret Machine's drummer (Ben Curtis) is human. I have a sneaking suspicion he is actually half wolverine.
Maybe Curtis and Mastodon's Brann Dailor are from the same wolverine pack?

I saw this guy at the ACL festival. Check out his music. The self titled latest release is strong.
Others that impressed that I had not really heard were A A Bondi, Delta Spirit, Backdoor Slam and Joe Bonamassa. The later has been around for quite a while.
Regret can't offer any movie ideas. Who has the time to watch movies with so much great music available ?
For music, the newest I've been listening to is 10 Years' new album Division.
For movies, my favorite new movie is the new Hulk movie. It's awesome to watch and listen to!
I've been watching the whole nine seasons of " THE WALTONS ". Superbly made TV.
Music?
I've been hearing Wilhelm Kempff playing Beethoven piano sonatas. Recorded in the early 50's,it sounds magnificent !
