We recently set up a Cambridge music server for a Buyer's Guide roundup (see TPV70, our September issue), and this particular server had Internet Radio installed. We had some real fun with that. Talk about the global village--there were stations here I'd never heard of from places like Dubai and the Czech Republic and many other locales. It was a real kick. Imagine it, techno rock from Dubai. And during breaks between songs when the DJ chimes in, you get a chance to brush up on your multi-lingual skills.
I also have Internet Radio on my Mac at work, but it's not quite so globally based; mostly stations from the U.S. and Canada.
I like the idea of Internet Radio in terms of its potential sociological impact. Seems like the more we see how we are alike as humans inhabiting the planet, perhaps the less likely we'll be to bomb one another to smithereens because of our differences. (Or maybe not).
Anyhow, I'm growing fond of Internet radio.
Who esle has had experience with it and what are your thoughts?
