Integrated Amps for Apogee Stages

ejadvisor -- Wed, 10/04/2006 - 18:58

Hello Audio Experts,

I am looking for a reasonably priced integrated amp to drive a pair of Apogee Stages. I am trying to spend around $1500 and am going to use the system for audio only. The room is 13' x 22" and I tend to listen to pop/rock on the loud side but also play some jazz.

I appreciate your thoughts.....EJADVISOR

If I recall, the Stages are very inefficient. If that is correct, have you considered getting a separate amp and preamp, but used?

I am open to using separates but thought that an integrated would be a more economical approach. I have driven these speakers in the past with A Rotel 990 BX amp and it seemed to be plenty of power. I no longer own this amp.

Do you have some ideas on used amps/preamps that I should look consider?

I would consider Parasound and Arcam.

Krell KAV-300i/300iL or 400xi will do the trick.

hi i used to work for them in there factory , go with separates adcoms maybe
the cheapest for them or find a used krell or threshold personally they did not have the dynamics for rock or pop i tried them out in there listing room at the factory jazz and classical were a lot more suited for them ps the reason they went under is because they cut cost on the frame and construction of the speakers and were very narrow minded on other types of music if it did not sound good on there systems thanks tim
