if you didn't have enough pins for input and output in avr what whould you do first?

in the name of God,
here is two suggestions .1. i can use 2 avrs(dip40!for some reasons i can't use smd ones!!) to solve this.2. i can use 74573(373) to latch extra pins or ports.
which one is better??

Do you really need everything plugged in at once?

Last time I used my LD player HD TV hadn't been invented yet....

BTW God has very little to do with AVR recievers. I think they were first invented by the devil :)
