High Compliance Cartridge for Low Mass tonearm

dlaloum -- Mon, 12/28/2009 - 08:33

Hi Folks

so here I am with a very low mass tonearm in my Revox B795 turntable...
Further research has shown a recommended cartridge/stylus compliance of 24+ u/m - most cartridges today are below 15... (minimum recommended is 20)
The Shure V15 is a perfect match with original Needles - but with Jico styli the compliance drops to circa 15 (according to an e-mail from them).
So I am looking for advice as to what current cartridges might be a good match for the tonearm....

Thank you

David

I see that Soundsmith posts it's compliance on it's web page for its cartridges.  At a quick glance I noted that their SMMC 1  cartridge comes in two models ... 28 µm/mN for their high compliance model and 22 µm/mN for their medium compliance model.  They've received good reviews and have a wide variety of selections to choose from.

linear tonearms are less sensitive to compliance mating than are pivoted ones.

i used an adc XLM on my rabco st4 TT and it performed quite well there as did many another cartridge such as the grado F1+, equivalent to today's red.

i see no problem, with using the shure.
