Herron Audio

I have been using Herron Audio electronics for a couple of years now and have found them to be very reliable and all round good value. I have the VTSP 3 preamp, the VTPH 2 phono stage and four M1 monoblocks I use to drive Focus Audio FS 888s. While this may not be an ultra high end system it does a lot that the mega buck systems do.
The reason I started this thread was to try and elicit other peoples experiences with Keith Herron designs. You don't see them reviewed much at all, perhaps because they are not expensive or exclusive enough and not what you would call entry level. Any thoughts?

I have emailed Keith Herron to see if there is an upgrade path to the new pre. Do you think there would be such an option? Have you compared the 3a to the 3 and if so what are your thoughts? Cheers.

I believe there is an upgrade path, I'm sure Keith will let you know. This is my first exposure to Herron gear so I have no comparison reference to earlier models. Keith says the 3a on the preamp is a subtle but significant improvement. The amps are very good but my sense is that the pre is extra special. I have'nt heard it, but the new version of the phono stage is also rumored to be quite exceptional.

Got my pre updated to 3A status. The improvement is rather signifficant but I would not say subtle. I think Keith Herron is being modest. I was happy with the #3 but have found the 3A to be a revelation with greater transparency and increased dynamics with more bass punch. I am glad I got the updated version.

Long time owner of Keith's M150 monoblocks and I must say they've done the job.  Neutral, maybe to a fault, with rock solid reliability.  They have allowed me to make it easy to evaluate other components in my system and remain the one "unchangeable" in my system.  I need a tube somewhere in my system to taylor the sound to my taste, but because of their neutrality I don't have to juggle, just find that one tube I love, done and dusted.

I have found the VTSP-3 to be just great. I leave it on all the time and although I bought a set of replacment tubes I hope to get 10 years out of the originals! It is very stable and has all the features you would ever need plus more. An extra good value in my opinion.
