HELP WITH BUYING A NEW TV

hi guys,
i want to buy a new tv for my house atm i have a 42 philps plasma, want to replace it with a 46-50 inch screen, not to sure if i should go with plasma or lcd. the tv is be used for daily tv use, not much sport. has to be full hd 1080p too. i have a budget of upto 700 pounds i wanted to get a 5 year cover too.
any help and advice would be grateful.
