HDTV'S

I am going to buy a new HDTV in the next month or so and am wondering what technology whould be the best to buy. I have looked at the new Sony 50 inch SXRD and the V, inc 50 inch Plasma. I think both look great while watching HD but have not yet watched any movies. I know that the Sony is about $1000 more than the Vizio, but if they were about the same price, which would be a better tv?

I have read some reviews saying that plasma tv's last longer and have read some reviews saying that lcos tv's last longer. Is there really any evidence to back this up. With the Sony, should I be worried that it might have some problems since it is kind of a new technology compared to plasma? I have also heard some myths that you shouldn't buy the first model of a Sony because they haven't worked the kinks out. Is this True?

Lastly, I was wondering if brand name really matters when it comes to buying cables? For examle, monstercable compared to accoustic research for hdmi and componet cables. Monstercable seems to be about twice as much. I was just in my local bust buy and they were side by side on the self.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I think you've identified two really strong HD contenders.

I'm now on my second 50" V (Vizio) plasma.
On both, the picture quality on HD (Comcast HD) was/is spectacular.
It is not so good on Standard NTSC broadcasts, so I find myself primarily watching HD material.

I have my eye on the 60" Sony SXRD. The blacks are much better than on the Vizio so if you want a more film-like experience, that would be a very choice, albeit for a lot more money.

The 50" SXRD is said not to be as good as the 60"---I don't why but perhaps others can enlighten?
