I was wondering if anyone has a workaround to this minor but annoying issue. I am using a hi-def Tivo HR10-250 with a new Sony XBR2. I am running audio through my receiver but HDMI to the TV.
I really do not need the TV to try to decode the audio (in fact the audio section is turned off because the speakers are removed) however everytime I tune in a station that produces Dolby Digital audio, I get a popup on the TV stating "unsupported audio, please check source device" etc. etc.. ".
It goes away but it blocks the Guide grid and of course the picture for a while.
I can turn off Dolby Digital on the Tivo but of course then I do not get DD on the optical out to the receiver which makes no sense.
The only solution I have found is a solution to a problem that should not be. Buying some kind of HDMI converter box that allows you to play with HDMI in and puts out video over HDMI and audio of optical/coax. These boxes are not inexpensive.
Are there any other solutions out there? Some kind of HDMI termination converter/etc. that might block the audio? Seems like I cannot tell the TV to just ignore it. I am well aware that HDMI is supposed to negotiate between the 2 devices and provide the appropriate audio but in this case, it is obviously not working.
As an aside I thought I saw a post that a full review of the XBR2 would be in the February TPV issue. I saw a short blurb in the PS3 section that refers to this website for more info, but that is it. And the Feb. issue is not posted yet...
Thanks,
BJB
