HD connection question

rharleytpv -- Tue, 02/28/2006 - 15:03

I need some help, I subscribe to Directv satellite services, yet
their "technical dept.'s" best answer to the following question was
to make the connections and select channel 201, if the picture is
clear you are receiving the "high definition" picture. The new
Directv HS20 receiver (HDMI output) and the new proper antenna dish
would be connected to 1) JVC HD 52Z575 (HDMI input-audio through RCA
interconnects because HDMI input does not accept audio signal); 2)
Westinghouse 37" HD Video Monitor LVM-37w1 (DVI input); 3) Samsung
TFT-LCD Television LT-P227W (DVI input) and 4) Zenith IQB64W10W (HD15
input). The video displays with the DVI inputs, I can use a cable
with a DVI connector at one end and an HDMI connector for the
satellite box at the other end. For the Zenith rear projection
television I can put adapters on one end of the HD15 cable (adapter
#1- HD15 female on one side, DVI male on the other side; adapter #2-
DVI female on one side, HDMI male on the other side). In each of the
four video display examples will I receive the "high definition"
pictures from the new HS20 satellite receiver (and its accompanying
proper antenna dish)?

Wow, that's pretty complicated! I don't see why you wouldn't see HD on any of the displays using the connections you mention, as long as they are all HD capable. I guess I'd be a bit suspicious of the Zenith connection because it's so kludgy. All you can do is try it and see what you get. If you have any experience viewing true HD material, it will be immediately apparent if the image is high-def or not.
