green ink

 I'm not sure that I'm in the right category but anyway..........
Whatever happened to the green ink that was recommended be put on the edge of cds?  Have cd  players advanced to the point that this offers no improvement?  Or did it ever offer any?  I tried it but never heard any difference, but that may have been a product of my system.  I never see it mentioned anymore.
