Classical Vocal Performance: "Rilke Songs," Lorraine Hunt Lieberson (Peter Serkin), track from Lieberson: Rilke Songs, The Six Realms, Horn Concerto.
How I wish that we could have seen a performance of one of these Rilke poems set by Peter Lieberson last night. I believe it would have honored the memory of Lorraine Hunt Lieberson. Perhaps the thought of exposing millions to contemporary classical composition was more than the show producers could get around.
Of course, we didn't have to hear Sting sing Dowland so it could have been so much worse.
Any other impressions amigos?
kind regards,
Scott

Scott -- thanks for the reminder on this. I have her Bach and Haydn, and forgot to buy this.

I'm glad to find another fan. All of her Harmonia Mundi work with Nick McGegan is excellent. It's worth seeking out any that she contributes to as there are always other top-tier soloists/ensembles involved and the recording quality is uniformly excellent.
She remains one of my all-time favorite singers and I can hardly make it through "Ich Habe Genug" anymore without tears. I always felt she not only knew the text translations, but internalized them and made them hers. A true artist who will be missed greatly.
kind regards,
Scott
