Front Projector Hook-up

HT2266 -- Mon, 11/05/2007 - 14:29

Hello, I'm new to the home theater thing and need some input on hooking up a front projector. I figure it's better to understand the connections before making the purchase. (also since the drywall isn't installed yet)What I want to do is use a front projector thru an HD cable box to view TV programs but also want to be able to hook up a DVD, VCR and possibly Playstation. Since there are only a few hook-ups on the front projectors how is this accomplished while running everything thru my A/V receiver?
Thanks for any help or input I can get :?

You're correct, most projectors do not have many inputs, so the best thing to do is use an A/V receiver. All modern A/V receivers have a multitude of inputs, including HDMI, component, S-video, and composite video (in that order of quality), as well as digital and analog audio. All you do is connect the outputs from your source components (HD cable box, DVD player, VCR, PlayStation, etc.) to these inputs using the best quality connection each one provides, and then select what you want to watch and/or listen to with the receiver's remote. Most modern receivers "upconvert" all video signals to either HDMI or component, no matter what type of connection they use from the source device, so that's the only connection you need to make from the receiver to the projector.
