File types

I'm trying to decide whether to keep with Windows Lossless for my archiving or to switch to WAV files. Storage is not a big concern. My only concern is the best performance possible.

WAV is generally lossless, as can be WMA. However, the WMA lossless compression scheme is more efficient, so your files would be a bit smaller. You say that doesn't matter, so I can't see a reason based on quality to prefer one over the other.

Compatibility, though, would be a tie breaker for me. I haven't done a survey, but just casually, WAV seems to be in decline. WMA lossless seems to have been disregarded by many manufacturers (at least in portable audio). FLAC seems to be becoming more popular with some. Others may have a better view.
